As humans, we are destined to experience a wide range of physical and emotional sensations, not all good. EFT tapping is an easy way to manage the physiological and psychological issues that accompany everyday life. Let’s talk about this technique and how to help you use it effectively.
How Is EFT Tapping Performed?
So then, what is tapping therapy? Let’s start with a bit of anatomy and physiology lesson to explain how tapping works.
Deep in the base of your brain sits the amygdala. It is best known as the part of the brain that detects threats and activates appropriate fear-related responses such as “fight, flight, or freeze”. Modern-day lifestyles seldom include life-threatening forms of stress. Without physical action using up the triggered stress hormones, they just build up inside us.
As its name implies, the emotional freedom technique releases these energy blockages that are causing you to feel negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, and stress. When you tap the meridian points on your body with your fingertips, tapping sends signals to your amygdala. The EFT technique combines body tapping with acknowledging what is causing you stress. Together, the tapping method helps your mind and body realise that you are not in any physical danger. Your cortisol levels drop and your disrupted energy is rebalanced.

How Can I Use Tapping?
One of the most prominent benefits of EFT is that it can be used anywhere with ease. You can easily stimulate your EFT tapping points wherever and whenever you need to. Using this technique, you can easily gain:
- Reduced anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias.
- Confidence in public speaking.
- Physical health improvements (IBS, headaches, physical pain).
- Healing from previous trauma (such as sexual assault).
- Aid in the quitting of addictions (such as smoking.)
- Greater levels of self-confidence.
- Relief from social anxiety.
- Freedom from emotional eating, poor eating habits, food cravings, and other eating disorders.
- To help their children with issues ranging from car sickness and sleeping problems to fears about school.
Tapping To Calmness In 5 Minutes.
While it is best to attend a tapping course to ensure you are doing the right thing, there’s no reason not to give it a go in the meantime. There are several standard tapping points that will help you achieve success with EFT tapping by learning where these tapping points are and how to use them.

All you need is five minutes to tap into a calm state following these five steps:
- Identify the issues or fears that you are experiencing; it’s best to work on one at a time.
- Evaluate the level of stress associated with the problem using a scale of 0-10.
- Start with the start-up statement. This is the statement of acceptance you repeat at the start of each session to prepare for the next steps. This statement must be said aloud and be accompanied by tapping lightly on the side of either hand (karate chop) with either two or three fingers. An example of a set-up statement: “Even though I feel depressed about being overweight, I completely and wholeheartedly love and accept myself”.
- From here, you must move on with the tapping sequence, tapping lightly while repeating the affirmations of your choice. These affirmations must be related to the pain or anguish that you are experiencing. Start by tapping on the face-tapping points. From here, tap your collar bone at about the same spot that you would usually tie a tie. Next, tap your underarm, and end with head tapping. At each meridian tapping point, tap five to seven times while repeating affirmations such as “I am feeling this pain”.
- Reassess the level of stress the issue is causing you, and repeat the steps until you clear the problem.
